PINS - RULE THREE: DOING SOMETHING
(But what to do: AKA “Disappear in front of his brother, in a PUFF of SMOKE.”)
Consulting what rules we have, I can now tell you. Here is what we do. We do something.
This is a bit complicated, as you can do lots of things called something.
We need to think.
What do we do, when we do something?
Maybe first ask yourselves, before doing something:
Do you want some fish?
Did he disappear in a puff of smoke in front of you?
Do you have some pinking shears?
Can you perform a brief curvet?
Have you got a map of Shinghay-cum-Wendy, if not can you make one?
Are you familiar with the manuals for the Renault Dauphine?
Can you find a place where there’s good leafmould? And transport it back in secret?
Was there really a gorilla living behind a house on the Altham road?
Why would you consult a copy of Cheiro’s When Were You Born? (The answer - ‘to look at the photographed palm of Lord Kitchener’, is not relevant here.)
Where can you find a Jingle Jangle Johnny?
Do your friends call you Little Master?
Do you put your bins out the back or out the front?
If you reside in another country to that in which you were born maybe do something with this knowledge:
Relationships can only last if you are pleasing. But not often.
You need money as your best friend.
You have the choice of a range of accents.
Avoid junk shops. They are for the fashionable and irresolute of character.
You will forget an awful lot of people.
Foreign beer can get you drunk.
An umbrella is another friend.
And we went dancing by Hodder Bridge. And we played the range, with spoons. And a cardboard horse always won. And it’s a Long Way to Tipperary. And he never went upstairs, he was frightened to death and she frightened him. And they’d climb the curtains. And there was a button box. And A Tom Puss Museum. And they argued over each other’s cigarettes, on Christmas Day. And the mistle thrushes would come. And we got a letter from the Works, telling us to put our trust in God. And the back bedroom was so haunted you wouldn't go in. And upstairs the carpets were threadbare. And he was in a Home. The World in the Past: What It Was Like and What It Contained.
